HARTZELL, JR.

JOHN "JACK" H.

Age 92, of Upper St. Clair, peacefully passed away, on Saturday, July 11, 2026. He was born in Ford City, PA, on November 23, 1933, to the late J. Howard Hartzell and Flo Hartzell.

He is the beloved husband to the late Nancy L. (Strasser) Hartzell, married August of 1961; proud father of John "Jack" (Carolyn) Hartzell III of Bradford Woods, PA, Jeff (Greer Lowry) Hartzell of Bethel Park, PA and Judi (Seth) Webb of Alexandria, VA; caring grandfather of Tyler and Adam Webb; cherished brother of Ethel Jean (late Ned) Espy of Matthews, NC. Uncle to Ned (Melissa; late Barbra) Espy, David (Mary Jo) Espy, Sarah (Steven) Settlemyre, Loreen Strasser, Corrine (Paul) Bierman and Marni (Steve) Durham. Brother-in-law to the late Robert (Darlene; late Maureen) Strasser.

Jack graduated from Mt. Lebanon High School in 1951, before attending Thiel College in Greenville, Pennsylvania. He later earned his degree from Salem University in 1958.

A proud veteran, Jack served honorably in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955. Stationed in Germany, he was a member of the 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was a devoted member of Christ United Methodist Church in Bethel Park and was active in several fraternal organizations, including Masonic Lodge No. 76 in Bethel Park, the Scottish Rite, and the Syria Shriners. He was also a member of the National Corvette Restorers Society and National Insulation Association.

Following his military service, Jack established a successful career in the industrial insulation industry. After working for several major manufacturers and traveling extensively across the United States, he founded General Insulation Services, Inc. (GIS) in McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania, in March 1977. Under his leadership, GIS became a respected family company. Jack remained active in the business into his 80s. He moved in 2018 with his wife, Nancy, to Friendship Village in Upper St. Clair.

Jack found great joy in traveling, golfing, and sharing meals around town with his close friends. He held a lifelong admiration for muscle cars, but his true passion was restoring vintage Corvettes. When he wasn't tinkering in his garage, he could often be found out for a Sunday drive, attending car shows, or spending time with fellow automobile enthusiasts. While he loved sharing a good laugh and was known for his uncensored humor, in his quieter moments, he enjoyed watching classic Westerns and was an avid reader, especially Louis L'Amour novels.

Funeral arrangements by BEINHAUERS. Friends and family are welcome at 2828 Washington Rd., McMurray, 724-941-3211, Friday, July 24, 2026, 10:30 A.M.-12:30 P.M., where a memorial service will be held 12:30 P.M. Interment to follow at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies with full military honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Children's.
