Joseph C. Dimperio, 84, of Mt. Lebanon, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family on April 12, 2026. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ida (Caterino) and Michael Dimperio, as well as his sister Mary Adeline (Edward) Populo. He will be missed by his wife of 60 years, Cecelia, his daughters, Stephanie (Howard) Krass, Natalie (Mark) King and Emily (Frederick) Gustave, his six grandchildren, Charlotte and Julia Krass, Ava (Adrian) Alepuz and Lana King, Philip and Aaron Gustave. His brother Michael (Carol) Dimperio and sister Roseanne (Richard) Smith. Born in Hazelwood, Pennsylvania in 1941, Joseph (also known as Joe or Dr. D) pursued a lifelong career in education. He began teaching in Western Beaver School District and then moved on to the Pittsburgh City Schools for many years, including Sterrett Classical Academy. Throughout his teaching career, he consistently pursued higher education himself. He earned two masters degrees, a doctorate degree and a law degree in 1985 from Duquesne University School of Law. He was named superintendent of Ambridge School District in 1987 and became superintendent of West Mifflin School District in 1991, retiring in 2001. Throughout his "retirement," he continued to work as an arbitrator for the Allegheny County Courts. He also served as interim school superintendent throughout Allegheny, Beaver and Butler counties for ten districts, including Carlynton, Bethel Park, Peters Township and most recently, Chartiers Valley, as well as many consulting positions. He cherished spending time with his family, personal fitness, gardening, antiquing and was a lifelong Pittsburgh Steelers fan. A private family service will be observed.
