GIANGRECO

JOSEPH (GIUSSEPPI)

Joseph (Giusseppi) Giangreco of Scott Township, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 28, 2025, at age 88. Beloved husband of the late Cora Giangreco; devoted father of Catherine "Cathy" Votour (Paul); cherished Nonno of Roman and Antonio Votour; son of Caterina Giangreco and Francesco Giangreco of Valguarnera, Sicily, Italy. Joseph was a proud family man from Sicily who worked as a barber for nearly 50 years in the Tonidale area.

Joseph, or Guiseppi, as he was known to his friends and family in Italy, was born on July 3, 1937, in Valguarnera, Sicily. Joe's dedication for family, and fondness for dancing gave him purpose and enjoyment. A reputation for always being a great listener in the barber shop for his decades of clients, and as an involved community leader in Findlay Twp., Joe seemed to know just about everyone. He naturally contributed his time and energy for local politicians and judges while supporting his wife, Cora and daughter, Cathy.

Joe loved to tell stories of his "adventurous" life to anyone who would listen. If you were to believe just half the stories he told, Joe was a prolific soccer athlete and agent for the Italian government. One thing for certain, Joe was well-traveled in the world and served proudly as a Carabinieri (police officer) while a young man in Italy. When Joe landed in the United States at the age of 25, he settled in Pittsburgh with the young new love of his life, Cora. Barely able to speak any English, his new community neighbors told him that to become an American, you must first be a Steelers fan! So, Joseph purchased season tickets at old Forbes Field. And the seats have never left the family since. Cathy, Paul are carrying on the Steelers tradition just as he did starting in 1963.

Joseph was unapologetic about living life as a hard-working family man. He was comfortable taking risks in the stock market and forging his own path. As a poor immigrant with no formal education, Joe surely made the most of his instincts and better judgement. He is survived by his beloved daughter, Cathy and her husband Paul; and his two grandchildren, Roman and Antonio, whom he never tired of telling how much he loved them and was proud of them.
