Age 89, of Monroeville, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, February 1, 2026. Beloved husband of Diane M. Pysnik for 67 wonderful year; loving father of Lori (the late Michael) Hammond, Kevin (Valerie) Pysnik, and Amy (Dan) Williams; survived by his grandchildren, Becky (Dave) Polebaum, Joseph (Amy) Pysnik, Maggie (Michael) Novak, Michael (Gloria Majchrzak) Hammond, Nicholas Logan, Gregory Logan, Vincent (Alexandra Graf) Pysnik, and Cameron Williams; great-grandchildren, Ross and Grant Polebaum, Avery and Rylee Novak and Miles Pysnik; preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Josephine Pysnik.
Joseph's commitment to his family was unwavering. He was the cornerstone of family gatherings, always ready to share a story or partake in a friendly tease. His playful spirit and genuine interest in his grandchildren's sports and activities made him their biggest supporter.
An avid sportsman, Joseph's passion was for basketball. His love for the game was evident not only in his own play but also in his dedication to nurturing the sport within his community. For 35 years, he ran a local basketball league, Joseph's pursuit of knowledge led him to the University of Pittsburgh, where he earned both his Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Electrical Engineering. As a Registered Engineer, Joseph's professional journey was nothing short of remarkable. His tenure at U.S. Steel spanned 23 years, during which he authored several patents that greatly advanced the industry.
Joseph's passion for education was evident during his time as an associate professor at the University of Pittsburgh. For two years, he balanced teaching with his studies, imparting wisdom to the next generation of engineers while completing his master's degree.
Following his impactful period at U.S. Steel, Joseph continued to make strides in the engineering world as a Senior Process Control Engineer at Westinghouse Nuclear Systems. His twelve years with Westinghouse were characterized by a commitment to excellence and innovation. Even after his retirement, he remained a valued consultant for the company, demonstrating his unwavering dedication to his craft.
Joseph's service extended beyond his professional life into his spiritual community. As the president of the North American Martyrs Catholic Church Council for seven years and served as an usher for 25 years.
Joseph Pysnik's life was one of purpose and impact. His achievements in engineering will endure through the patents he authored and the students he inspired. His leadership in the church will be remembered for fostering a spirit of unity and faith. Above all, his character-marked by integrity, intelligence, and kindness-will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him. Joseph's life was a beacon of what it means to live fully, contribute meaningfully, and love generously. He will be deeply missed, yet his legacy will remain a guiding light for many.
Friends will be received Tuesday, February 3, 2026, 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the JOBE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, INC. (MONROEVILLE/PLUM CHAPEL), 445 Beatty Road, Monroeville (412-856-4747). Mass of Christian Burial at St. Bernadette Church - Christ the Divine Shepherd Parish, February 4, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. Interment to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
