JULIA

Julia was born on August 17, 1924, in Madera, Pennsylvania, and lived a life marked by faith, kindness, generosity, and devotion to her family. As a young woman, she began her working career as a seamstress in New York City. After marrying Leo, a proud WWII Navy Veteran, she moved to the Pittsburgh area, and in 1957 they settled in Plum, where they raised six children in a home filled with love, hospitality, and strong family values. A devoted grandmother, Julia helped care for and nurture many of her grandchildren, creating lasting memories and providing a loving foundation that shaped generations of her family. Julia's greatest joy was caring for others. She was known for sharing her homemade bread, cookies, and garden produce with family, friends, and neighbors. Family traditions were especially important to her, and she lovingly hosted holiday gatherings for many years, ensuring that cherished traditions continued throughout her life. A talented homemaker and gifted crafter, Julia created beautiful hand-knit sweaters, quilted blankets, and cross-stitch pieces that remain treasured keepsakes for her family. A loyal Pittsburgh sports fan, she especially loved the Pirates and often shared memories of attending games at Forbes Field. Blessed to see five generations of the family, Julia took great pride in being a great-great-grandmother. Her legacy of faith, love, and devotion lives on through her children, grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and all who were fortunate to know and love her. She is survived by Eileen Julia (the late William James) Freliche, John Patrick (the late Kristen) Grattan, Richard (Susan) Grattan, Bernard Charles Grattan, Mary Ann (the late Helmuth) Willinger; sister Susan Couperthwaite; She is preceded in death by her husband Leo Eugene Grattan; and her son, Thomas Michael Grattan. Friends received Wednesday, from 3-8 p.m., at SOXMAN FUNERAL HOMES LTD., 7450 Saltsburg Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15235. Mass of Christian Burial, Thursday, 10:30 a.m., at St. John the Baptist Church of Holy Family Parish. Interment, Twin Valley Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fr.
