Recent resident of Friendship Village of South Hills, and a long-term resident of Mount Lebanon, PA, on November 29, 2025. She is survived by her children, Martin Schmidt of Burlington, NC, and Susan Schmidt of Wheeling, WV; and brothers, Tom of Knoxville, Tennessee, and Buck of New Orleans. Her love of language and continuing education started with graduation from Wellesley College with a BA, continued at Middlebury College with a master's, and concluded at New York University with a Ph.D. in linguistics. She held administration positions at Manhattanville College, Marist College, Loyola University, Elon College, Wheeling Jesuit University, and Muskingum College, concluding with the publication of her book, "The Survival of People and Languages." She will be missed by all who knew her. Services are private per her request. Arrangements entrusted to BALL FUNERAL CHAPEL, INC.
