Kathleen Ann Ziegler and Richard Dell Ziegler, known affectionately as Kathy and Dell, passed away together on July 8, 2026. They met at the University of Michigan, married in 1970, and welcomed their only child, Wendy Ziegler-Clark, in 1971. Kathy and Dell shared more than five decades of life together, building friendships, serving their community, making their home in Highland Park in Pittsburgh, and enjoying their seasonal Cottage and community in Henry's Bend, Oil City, PA.

Kathy was born on December 11, 1943, to Thomas Severn and Jean Boris Severn, and was also lovingly shaped by her stepmother, Hedwig 'Hattie' Severn. Kathy pursued her education at the University of Michigan, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and Chemistry, along with a secondary teaching certificate, in 1966. She also earned a Master of Arts degree in Guidance and Counseling from the Univ. of Michigan.

Dell was born on April 21, 1945, in Buffalo, New York, to Williard 'Bill' Wilson Ziegler and Mary Ann Shivers Ziegler. Dell attended Duke University, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, and went on to earn his law degree from the University of Michigan Law School. He served as a captain in the United States Marine Corps, where he was a judge advocate.

Kathy's life reflected her pursuit of many interests and building meaningful connections. She worked as a social worker from 1970 to 1976, served with the Pittsburgh Council for International Visitors in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, from 1979 to 1986, and later worked at Northwood Realty. She volunteered with the Highland Park Community Club, and loved being a docent at The Carnegie Museum.

Dell, after his years as a Marine, began practicing law at Buchanan Ingersoll in 1974, where he built a long distinguished legal career. He served on the board of Craig House School. He was very active in the Highland Park Community Council, working on many neighborhood projects, such as planting flowers, the Super Playground, the reservoir jogging path, the zoo mural along One Wild Place Street, as well as working to prevent slumlords.

Kathy will be remembered for her kindness, curiosity, and volunteerism. Dell will be remembered for his keen mind, gregarious character, and service to country, profession, and community.

Kathy and Dell were preceded in death by their parents, Kathy's brother Tommy, Dell's brother Scott Ziegler, Dell's sister Terry Ziegler, and their beloved dogs Charlie and Speckles. They are both survived by their daughter, Wendy Ziegler-Clark; Wendy's partner, Rev. Walter Clark; and their two grandchildren, Willow and William Clark, as well as Dell's sister Jill Ziegler, and Kathy's sister Pauline Greenlick Picard and two nieces, Hannah and Madeline Greenlick.

There is no plan for a memorial service at this time. Donations in remembrance of Kathy and Dell may be made to the Highland Park Community Council, in Pittsburgh, PA.
