LEONARD "LEN"

Age 86, of Pittsburgh, PA, passed away peacefully in his McCandless home, on Monday, June 2, 2025, surrounded by his family and friends.

Preceded in death by his parents, William and Margaret (Riehl) Blashford; and his four older brothers, Edward, William, Donald, and Richard.

Survived by his two sons, Eric (Lori) Blashford, Clifford (Mary) Blashford; five grandchildren, Bailey (Robert) Jackelen, Ethan Blashford, Megan (Ryan) Whittle, Elizabeth Blashford, Chloe Blashford; two great-grandchildren, Atlas and Eleanor; and one great-grandson, August Leonard, soon to arrive.

Len was the youngest son of hardworking blue-collar parents in the Lawrenceville section of Pittsburgh. Len attended Sunnyside Elementary followed by Washington Vocational High School, where he learned the printing trade. Len was an excellent student, a gifted artist and varsity baseball pitcher.

Len served his country in the U.S. Army, rising to the rank of Sergeant in the U.S. Army Reserves. Len maintained a strong affinity, respect and reverence for military service and veteran sacrifice throughout his life.

Len retired at 60 years of age, following 35 years in the commercial printing trade. The majority of his career he worked for two firms, Pickwick Mor-Craft and Geyer Printing. Len was an avid Pirates fan, patient and attentive gardener and an accomplished acoustic guitar player.

Len enjoyed a long, active and family-centered retirement providing love, endless support, and plenty of bad puns to his loved ones. No week would go by without Len's presence at any school function, musical production, athletic event, family meal, game night or home project. Though Len was fiercely independent, his kindness, generosity, creativity, humor and affection shined through in everything he did.

Friends and family are welcome to attend a Celebration of Life service at St. John's Lutheran Church of Highland, 311 Cumberland Rd., Pittsburgh 15237, at 11:00 am, on Saturday, June 14, 2025, followed by a fellowship luncheon.
