LILLIE (HINDES)

Age 91, of Greentree, passed away Monday, August 3, 2026, surrounded by her loving family in her home.

Born May 15, 1935, in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Gladys (McKeen) Hindes.

Lillie graduated from Crafton High School. During high school, she met the love of her life, the late John F. McConnell, at a square dance at Crafton Heights United Presbyterian Church, where they remained members for the rest of their lives.

Lillie worked for Bodner's for a time, before she married John on Sept. 1, 1957. She then focused her efforts on her husband and growing family.

Lillie provided her family with a steady presence of love and support. She had a warm smile and could brighten up a room with her laughter. This was as true on a warm summer evening on the porch as it was surrounded by her whole family for a holiday meal.

Lillie's passion for her family extended into their passions as well. She was an avid hockey fan, particularly rooting for her grandchildren and the Pittsburgh Penguins. Lillie also loved the other Pittsburgh sports teams, and the TV was often turned to a game.

Strong in their faith, Lillie and John were avid churchgoers, even attending virtually when necessary. Throughout the years, they proudly supported the church with charitable contributions and acts of service.

Through love and faith, Lillie and John created the foundation for a close-knit family.

Lillie is survived by her children, John (Maura) McConnell Jr., Carol (Ed) Abel and Karen (Todd) Seeberger; her grandchildren, James (Kirstin) Fuhs, Jared (Emma) Fuhs, Gregory (Carly) Pencosky, Caleb McConnell, Maggie (Arsh) McConnell, Caitlin (Nathan) Bottiger, Nathan Abel, Haylee (Jack) Seeberger and Noah Seeberger; her great-grandchildren, Harlow and Lucy Fuhs, Rowan and Rylan Fuhs, Reagan Pencosky and Irene and Callum Bottiger; her brother, Stanley Hindes; and many nieces, nephews and their children and grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, Lillie was preceded in death by her daughter, Rebecca (the late James) Fuhs and Janet (the late John) Pencosky; and her other nine siblings.

Visitation will take place from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., on Monday, August 10, 2026, at the WARCHOL FUNERAL HOME, 3060 Washington Pike, Bridgeville.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, August 11, at Crafton Heights United Presbyterian Church, 50 Stratmore Ave., Pittsburgh, with the Rev. Dave Carver officiating.

Interment and graveside committal service will take place prior to the service at 10:30 a.m., at Chartiers Cemetery.
