Lois Parks Slocum, age 78, of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2025, after a courageous battle with Bulbar ALS.



Born on April 20, 1947, in Beaver Falls, PA, she was the daughter of the late John and Anna Parks.



Lois is also preceded in death by her husband, James Slocum, her siblings, Martha Kanagy and David Parks, and her brothers-in-law, Tom Bickerton and Dewayne Kanagy.



She is survived by her beloved sister, Miriam Bickerton, sister-in-law, Ida Mae Parks, two children, four grandchildren, and many loving nieces and nephews.



A 1965 graduate of Beaver Falls High School, Lois went on to complete nursing school at Presbyterian Hospital in 1968. That same year, in August 1968, she married the love of her life, James Slocum. Together, they raised two children, Christy (Jim) Heflin and their children, Spencer and Bryce of Madison, South Dakota, and Matt Slocum and his children, Daniel and Anna of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Lois's grandchildren brought her endless joy.



Lois began her nursing career at Presbyterian Hospital and went on to dedicate over 25 years to St. Clair Hospital and received further nursing degrees at LaRoche and Carlow College. After retiring from hospital work, she became the first Parish Nurse at Christ United Methodist Church, a role she served in faithfully for ten years.



Throughout her life, Lois exemplified compassion and service. She volunteered generously through the Girl Scouts, church ministries, hospice care, church camp leadership, mission trips, reading programs, and more. She loved to travel with family and friends, cherishing each adventure and every shared memory along the way. Her hobbies included: swimming, photography, reading, and socializing.



Funeral services will be held on Sunday, October 12th at 2:00 PM at Christ United Methodist Church, 44 Highland Road, Bethel Park, Pennsylvania. Following the service, the family will greet guests at a reception at the church.
