DAY
LORAINE CHARLOTTE GREBACK
Loraine Charlotte Greback Day, of Gibsonia, was an angel on earth, leading a life of selfless service to her family, friends, and community. She passed away peacefully on Friday, March 7, 2025 in the comfort and care of St. Barnabas Nursing Home.
Loraine is survived by her beloved husband of 67 years, William V. Day; her brothers Robert Greback and Charles T. Greback (Louise); her sister-in-law Donna Day; children Valerie Wilden (Greg) and Douglas Day (Elizabeth); niece Jennifer Pfenning; nephews Charles and Joseph Greback (Brandi); grandchildren Alyssa Wilden (Kyle Encinas), Scott Wilden (fiancé Kaylyn Rocher), Roman Day (Elizabeth), Dayne Wilden; and her great-granddaughter, Loraine Encinas. She was predeceased by her parents, Nellie (Kuzniar) and Charles Greback; in-laws Willa (Vance) and George Day; brother Stanley Greback and sister-in-law Marianne Greback.
Born and raised in Monaca, Pennsylvania, Loraine's career was as diverse as it was fulfilling. She worked for Mellon Bank in downtown Pittsburgh and modeled for the Beaver County Times, where she met her husband, then a sports reporter William Day. The two were married in 1958. In the 1960s, Loraine became a quiet jet-setter, balancing a career, family, and community service while raising her family in Pittsburgh's North Hills. Her career spanned roles in administrative supervision of several businesses and managing The Village at St. Barnabas S.B. Charters Country Store. As a devoted volunteer, she gave her time and talents to the Highland Elementary School Mothers' Club, her church's Sunday school and events, and when William became president of the St. Barnabas Health System, she presided over its first charitable ladies' auxiliary and manned the PRESENTS FOR PATIENTS© headquarters. Loraine also helped to establish a scholarship fund with classmates of Monaca High School Class of 1955, which continues to benefit students today.
Loraine's loving and nurturing nature made her a particularly sweet grandmother, balancing a strong spirit with immense gentleness. She loved playing baseball with her grandsons, doting on babies, and sharing her homemade scrambled eggs and the BEST buckeye cookies with family and friends.
In addition to her dedication to family, Loraine enjoyed vacationing in Ft. Fisher, North Carolina, and Conneaut Lake, Pennsylvania. She and William were also avid travelers, exploring many cruises and trips abroad. Loraine made Christmas very special each year. She cherished her Polish heritage, was Monaca High School's band queen, and was a lifelong Steelers fan. Her beauty, both inside and out, was ever-present, though she never truly realized how truly radiant she was.
A private service will be held to celebrate Loraine's life at First Presbyterian Church of Bakerstown. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Barnabas Charities God Bless Fund through stbarnabashealthsystem.com/charities/donate-now or St. Barnabas Charities, 5850 Meridian Road, Gibsonia, PA 15044.
Loraine's legacy of love, service, and devotion will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. May she rest in peace.
