MARGARET BRITT HARTLEY Obituary
HARTLEY
MARGARET BRITT
Margaret Britt Hartley died peacefully, but unexpectedly, in Providence Health and Rehab Center in Beaver Falls, PA, on April 22, 2026. A long-term resident of Sewickley, PA, Britt had been hospitalized for nearly a year, at Providence, while courageously dealing with medical issues related to myotonic dystrophy disease.
Britt, the daughter of Thomas Kirby Hartley and Nell Britt Tabor Hartley, was born November 24, 1971, in Chicago. She attended schools in Glencoe, IL, Nashville, TN and Sewickley. She graduated from Quigley High School in Baden, PA and earned an associate degree from Robert Morris University in Moon Township, PA and a CNA license from Ivy Tech Community College in Muncie, IN.
In her teenage years, Britt was a sought-after caregiver for children, many of whom remained friends after they matured. As an adult, Britt worked for various people and companies in and near Sewickley, including the USAir Club and Bruegger's Bagels. She volunteered at Sewickley's Tull Theater (now the Lindsay) after she was unable to work full time. It was there that she made many new friends. Her outstanding memory helped her remember their names and interests. Many recognized and appreciated her subtle sense of humor.
Britt was a member of St. Stephen's Anglican Church in Sewickley. She loved being able to help with its programs for children and to be a member of its adult sign language choir.
At Providence, Britt enjoyed watching TV, especially Jeopardy, family-oriented programs, and NFL football when she was not reading or solving word games and Sudoku puzzles. Britt was kind, accepting, caring and generous. She enjoyed visiting with her friends of all ages. She liked sending cards to those who were celebrating a special event as well as to those who needed encouragement.
Britt is survived by her parents and numerous relatives. Her brother, Robert Heinsohn Hartley, died of reoccurring brain cancer in 2005. Robert's widow, Barbara, remained important in Britt's life.
In May, her ashes will be buried next to those of Robert's in Palm Cemetery in Winter Park, FL, during a graveside service. A memorial service will be held at St. Stephen's at a date to be determined.
Britt was raised in a Christian home. Her faith grew stronger as she matured. She was a firm believer in the existence of a Heaven filled with the souls of believers. Her parents take comfort in thinking that as she was dying, she very probably thought about her soon being reunited with those of Robert, her grandparents, and deceased friends. Her parents, her friends, and her relatives are thankful for the short time they had to love and appreciate her.
Memorials to Britt can be sent to St. Stephen's Anglican Church, Children's Ministry, 405 Frederick Street, Sewickley, PA, 15143 or to the Lindsay Theater and Cultural Center (formerly the Tull), 418 Walnut Street, Sewickley, PA 15143.
