MARGARET FAULKNER JAMES Obituary
JAMES
MARGARET FAULKNER
Margie, 83, passed away after a hospital stay, holding her daughter's hand. She was raised by the best parents, Ralph and Helen Faulkner, on Troy Hill, in Pittsburgh, PA, along with her five sisters and two brothers. She described growing up as a "very happy childhood." Her fondest memories were playing outside at night, catching lightning bugs, and going to Troy Hill Pool. As a rule-follower, she always made sure she was home when the streetlights came on.
She was recruited out of high school to work at Alcoa, which she did from 1960 until 1968, when she became pregnant with her only child, Dana. Margie evolved into a stay-at-home mom; however, boredom set in when Dana went to school. In 1975, she found her career right at home in Hunting Ridge. For the next 35 years, Margie was the office manager for the Community Services Association, overseeing 1000 homes, 56 acres of common area, a meeting house, basketball courts, bike trails, ball fields, playgrounds, and a pool.
Margie cherished being "Grammy." If she could not attend a sporting event or activity of Joshy or Jackie, she would watch endless videos on her computer of every play. Grammy loved spoiling them by going back-to-school shopping. She enjoyed this so much she continued the annual tradition even during their college years.
Qualities she stressed to her daughter were kindness, love, strength, and forgiveness. She said not to be a pushover, to have a great work ethic like her parents taught her, and that being on time is being late.
Each morning Margie checked Facebook for family updates and kept her brain sharp by playing Words With Friends and reading the news online.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister and brother-in-law, Gerry (Pat), Sue (Bill), and Paula (surviving, Jack). Margie leaves behind sisters, Tecky (Jim), Sally (Wendell); and brothers, Ralph and Jeff (Donna). Missing her greatly now and forever are her daughter, Dana; son-in-law of 30-plus years, Timmy; and handsome grandsons, Josh and Jack. Finishing off her very loud and large family are nineteen caring and high-spirited nieces, nephews, and their growing families. This brings her Faulkner family to over 100 people!
At my momma's request, there will not be a viewing or memorial. She wants a get-together of family, which will be held later to celebrate her, tell stories, and laugh. Also, in lieu of flowers or monetary donations, I ask all reading this to please be a kind person to everyone, without judgment, just like her.
"Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened."
Arrangements entrusted to the LEO J. HENNEY FUNERAL HOME, Carnegie.
