KELLY

MARGARET "MEG" MARY

Age 65, of Upper St. Clair, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, on March 18, 2026. She was a loving wife and mother, a generous friend, and a gifted artist whose warm and inspiring spirit will be missed by the many she touched.

Born in Baldwin Borough on August 13, 1960, to Ray and Elizabeth Schotting, Meg was the youngest of seven children. The family moved to Finleyville when Meg was seven. She enjoyed growing up in the country, her pony, Peanuts, and building things with her father in his shop.

She met her future husband, Carl Kelly of Mt. Lebanon, when they both worked at Willi's Ski Shop in Castle Shannon, PA. They both enjoyed skiing, tennis, camping, bike riding, and all the outdoor activities that southwestern Pennsylvania had to offer. After marrying in 1983, they moved to Fairfax, VA, where Meg began her professional career at Kellerco helping design traffic flow patterns for the Tyson's II project. After the birth of their first child, Brian, they returned to Pittsburgh, where Meg freelanced as a graphic designer at Fischer Scientific and Black Box Corp.

Following the birth of Kevin and Megan, Meg retired to be a full-time mom. Meg filled her children's lives with adventure. They spent days hiking, visiting museums and libraries, riding bikes, and boating, and she taught them the importance of kindness and curiosity. She and her best friend, Darenda, raised over $15,000 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and completed two 100-mile bicycle rides in support of the efforts to eradicate blood cancer. She traveled to New Orleans to aid in disaster relief in 2005, and helped lead charitable mission trips to Malawi, Haiti, Arizona, and West Virginia. She found meaning through the people around her, the experiences she shared with them, and was especially at peace around water, on her boat, or with a paintbrush. One of her sculptures was displayed at the Carnegie Museum of Art. After the passing of her friend Pam in 2009, Meg and Carl welcomed Pam's teenage children, James and David, into their home and family.

Ever the entrepreneur, Meg founded Frontier Energy in 2006 and found success performing work for the Market Square renovation project and Chatham University's energy efficiency initiative. As Vice President at eCap, Senior Director at CPower, and Vice President at American Efficient, she became regarded as a gifted technical consultant and an innovator in bringing efficiency to market. Meg was a mentor to those she worked with and an inspiring example of a woman business leader. Not one to be limited, Meg also briefly operated an art gallery in Mt. Lebanon, PA.

From 2023 to 2025, Meg and Carl enjoyed her dream lake home on Cheat Lake, WV, spending days on the boat together, before returning to Upper St. Clair to be closer to family.

Meg passed peacefully in the early morning hours, with Carl and her children, at her side, after a heroic battle with cancer.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters, Linda, Cathy and Joanne. She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Carl; her son, Brian (Michelle Kirkwood); her son, Kevin; her daughter, Megan (Christopher Schmidt); David Leyden; James Leyden; her siblings, Deborah Tomich, Beth Veres and John (Debbie) Schotting; and many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, friends; and her dog, Roxy.

Family and friends will be received Tuesday, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m., at BEINHAUER FUNERAL HOME, 2828 Washington Road, McMurray. A Memorial Mass will be held on Wednesday, 11 a.m., at Resurrection Parish, St. John Capistran Church (everyone please meet at the church).

Contributions in Meg's memory may be made to City Mission in Washington, PA (https://www.citymission.org).
