MARILYN L. CHRISTIAN Obituary
CHRISTIAN
MARILYN L.
Marilyn L. Christian was born December 19, 1932, to the late Savias and Josephine (Evans) Christian in Pittsburgh. She passed from this life on June 15, 2026, at UPMC Mercy Hospital after a short illness. She was a long-time Shadyside resident who recently resided in Mount Lebanon.
Marilyn graduated from the University of Pittsburgh and taught elementary school in the Pittsburgh School District for several decades. Her career in education took her to California, Colorado, Michigan, and back to Pittsburgh. Though retired, Marilyn continued to take classes as she was an avid learner. She also volunteered as a teacher in Germany with her sister, Nancy.
Travel, friendship, and faith played large roles in her life. From Norway, France, Ireland, and beyond, Marilyn could tell the story of each special souvenir she collected from each trip. Visiting and traveling with her local "friends group" was something she truly enjoyed, especially if the trip took them to a coastal shore. She always had a bag packed ready to travel. Marilyn never met a stranger and was kind to all. A long-time member of St. Jude Parish in Shadyside, she was involved with the Women's Group and ministering to the women of Haiti.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Barbara Rafaelle, Martha Joan Raiders, Nancy Costanza, and Elizabeth Chavren; and her brothers, Robert Christian and Thomas Christian. She is survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces, and great-grandnephews around the United States and beyond.
Friends will be received at JOHN A. FREYVOGEL SONS, INC. (freyvogelfuneralhome.com), at 4900 Centre Avenue at Devonshire Street, on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, from 3-6 PM. The funeral is Wednesday, June 24, 2026. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Church of St. Jude Parish at 10 AM. Interment in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Marilyn's honor to St. Jude's Research Hospital for Children, Memphis, Tennessee.
