MARTIN J. MELIA, JR. Obituary

Winter Park - MARTIN J. MELIA, JR. Martin J. Melia, Jr., 97, passed away on April 17, 2026, in Winter Park, FL. Martin was born on August 31, 1928, in Crafton, PA, the son of Martin J. Melia Sr. and Lena Fryer Melia. He attended St. Philip Elementary School, North Catholic High and Crafton High School. He graduated from Duquesne University in 1950 with a B.S. in Business where he also served in the ROTC. Martin was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force and entered service with the Air Force during the Korean War. He was assigned to transport weapons including nuclear weapons on cargo planes to bases in Europe, North Africa, and the western Pacific. Following discharge in 1953, he met and married Anne C. Kelly. They were married for 64 years. Martin operated Melia's Grocery Store in Crafton for 42 years until his retirement in 2001. His business was a long-term landmark in Crafton serving hundreds of customers in Crafton, Ingram, Thornburgh, Rosslyn Farms and Green Tree. It was a source of employment for many high-school-age Crafton residents. He is survived by two children, James P. Melia (Luanne) of Mechanicsburg, PA and Marilee M. Flint of Winter Park, FL; two grandchildren, Ryan Flint (Bri Petuck) of Pittsburgh, PA and Maggie Flint of Lakeland, FL. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Anne, and daughter Suzanne. He was also preceded in death by his siblings Sarah, Ruth, and James. Martin was a parishioner at St. Philip Catholic Church for most of his life, serving on various parish councils and as an usher. He was well known in the Crafton community for his quiet and reserved manner. Relatives and friends received Tuesday, May 12, 2026, from 10 - 11:30 AM at SCHEPNER-McDERMOTT FUNERAL HOME, INC., 165 Noble Ave., Crafton. Mass of Christian Burial to follow at St. Philip Catholic Church 50 West Crafton Avenue, Crafton at 12 noon. There will be a luncheon held at Cefalo's Banquet Facility at 428 Washington Ave. in Carnegie immediately following the funeral mass.
