Mary Ann McShane passed away peacefully on December 22, 2024, in Richmond, Virginia, after a long journey with dementia. Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in 1935 to Joseph and Mary Goney, she was the eldest of three sisters, Josephine and Helen. Mary Ann attended St. Paul's Cathedral High School before pursuing higher education at the University of Pittsburgh, where she earned a degree in Business in 1971 and later a Master of Education in 1975.
Mary Ann was predeceased by her husband, Robert F. McShane, Jr., and her beloved companion, Joseph Kachurak. She was a devoted mother to seven children: Kevin McShane (Yolanda), Mercedes Brumble (David), Kerry McShane, Mary Rose McShane, Brendan McShane, Carmel Vindivich (Ron), and Morgan Eitner. She was also cherished by her eight grandchildren - Christina McShane, Misha McShane, Kayla McShane, Deidre Brumble, Shelly McShane, Samantha Eitner Bailor, Nicholas Eitner, and Brendan Karilla - as well as several great-grandchildren.
A dedicated educator, Mary Ann taught high school and vocational students before spending many years at Arsenal Middle School in Lower Lawrenceville, Pennsylvania. Her passion for teaching left an indelible mark on her students and colleagues alike.
Mary Ann found joy in gardening, reading voraciously, solving the daily New York Times crossword puzzle, and listening to a variety of music. She gave back to her community through volunteer work with the Greenfield Organization's Great Books program and her involvement at St. Rosalia's Parish in Greenfield and St. Margaret's Parish in Greentree.
A celebration of life Mass will be held on April 16, 2025, at 10 a.m., at St. Rosalia's Church in Pittsburgh, followed by interment at Calvary Cemetery on Hazelwood Avenue.
Mary Ann's kindness and grace will be deeply missed by all who knew her. May her memory bring comfort to those she leaves behind.
