SZABO
MARY BERNADETTE "BEE"
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mary Bernadette "Bee" Szabo, who peacefully departed this world, on December 21, 2025, at the age of 86. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Stephen Joseph Szabo; as well as her parents, Joseph and Julianna Szotak; and her siblings, Joseph, Albert, Mary, Andrew, Edward and Bernard.
Born to Slovak immigrants in Star Junction, PA, Bee carried the strength, resilience, and wisdom of her heritage throughout her life. She was the epitome of a selfless, self-made woman who prioritized her family above all else.
Bee began her professional career at the Westinghouse Plant at Bettis. She married Stephen on October 13, 1962. The couple's love story was a 62-year journey filled with memories, laughter, and undying commitment to one another. Her analytical mindset complemented Stephen's creativity, and together, they partnered to grow their hair salon business, far surpassing any expectations all while cultivating many hairdressers' careers. Their business created another world of lifelong friendships and fun adventures. She was always very proud of her "salon family." She carried her passion for service and family throughout her career and personal life, never shying away from hard work and always placing others' needs before her own.
As a mother and grandmother, she was unwavering in her love and support, always offering a listening ear and guidance when needed. Her children and grandchildren were her greatest joy, and she found true happiness in their company, delighting in their accomplishments and simply spending time with them. Known for her "strong, silent" demeanor, she was a woman of few words but profound actions. She was the master of multitasking.
Bee was a woman of many unique traits. She was an avid reader and followed current events closely. She loved sports, especially her Steelers. She possessed a wonderful sense of humor and believed that laughter was often the best solution. Bee embodied genuine kindness, and her presence was comforting and familiar.
Though she is gone, her legacy of love, strength, and selflessness will continue to inspire and guide all who knew her. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, and she will be greatly missed.
