FINKE

MARY (DEGNAN)

At age 96, passed away on Monday, March 2, 2026. Born and raised in Hazelwood on January 18, 1930, Mary remained proud of her hometown roots and Irish heritage.

Mary was the daughter of Irish immigrants Bridget and Michael Degnan. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Finke, after 62 years of marriage; and by her brothers, James Degnan and John Degnan.

Mary is survived by her three children, Mary Wilson (Chris), James Finke (Holly), and Patricia Davis (Bill); her brother, Francis Degnan (Ginger); her sisters-in-law, Joan Degnan and Peggy Degnan; her 11 grandchildren; and her nine great-grandchildren.

Her greatest joy was her family, and she poured her love into them by creating a home defined by steadiness, warmth, and care. She had a gift for making people feel welcome that you could taste in her baking. Her legendary Irish bread and homemade ladyfingers were family favorites that turned everyday moments and special gatherings alike into something warm and memorable.

Mary's Catholic faith was the foundation of her life. She was a trusted confidant and a dear friend whose kindness and compassion touched countless lives. Her faith was reflected in quiet, faithful service to others. She volunteered for 16 years with Meals on Wheels and helped raise over $100,000 in support of Biafran refugees. She also supported new mothers and families in Charleston, West Virginia, collecting clothing and essentials through parish outreach.

While residing in Longwood at Oakmont, Mary remained actively involved while serving on the Spiritual Life Committee and continuing her tradition of giving back. There, she helped create mats for people experiencing homelessness using recycled materials, offering dignity and comfort through simple acts of compassion. Thank you to all the Longwood at Oakmont and Bridges Hospice staff for all the love and care.

Friends and family will be received on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., at WEDDELL-AJAK FUNERAL HOME, 100 Center Avenue, Aspinwall.

A Christian Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at 10:30 a.m., Christ the King Parish, St. Joseph Church, 342 Dorseyville Road, O'Hara Township.

Entombment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Pittsburgh.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry, 342 Dorseyville Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15215.
