MARY ISABELLA

Age 67, of Pittsburgh, PA, passed away peacefully, on August 6, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. Mary graduated from St. Edmund Preparatory High School in Brooklyn in 1975. She went on to attend the New School and LSU, earning master's degrees in Philosophy and Systems Science. As director of the Computing Workshop and later coordinator of the JCC Pittsburgh Gesher program, Mary helped students with diverse needs gain confidence doing things from riding the bus to attending college, but above all to know that they are special just the way they are. At home, she cared for troubled dogs and treasured time with her grandchildren. Mary is survived by her sons: Mark, his wife Abby and grandchildren, Amelia and Imogen and Paul. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Louise Pearce and Joseph P. Hart. Her family and friends will miss her kindness, energy, and boundary-pushing spirit. Visitation will be held Friday, August 15, from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the JOHN N. ELACHKO FUNERAL HOME, 3447 Dawson St., Pittsburgh, PA 15213. Her Burial will take place Thursday, August 21, with a gathering of family and friends at 9 a.m., at Bayou Rouge Baptist Church in Evergreen, LA, followed by Burial at 10 a.m., at the Bayou Rouge Baptist Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest close to her mother.
