MARY JANE "JANIE"

On March 20, 2026, Mary Jane "Janie" O'Donnell, 98, of McCandless Township, passed away peacefully at her residence at Cumberland Crossing Manor.

Janie was the adopted twin daughter of the late Ferdinand and Theresa (Sterzinger) Steinmiller and the twin sister of the late Dorothy Jean Koerner. She was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Francis A. O'Donnell, Jr.

She is survived by her son, Daniel (Pamela Greenway) O'Donnell; her niece, Rita Drozynski; and her nephew, Raymond Koerner.

Janie enjoyed a full and vibrant life for 98 years. She graduated from Avalon High School in 1945, where her favorite activity was roller skating. In the 1960s, she enjoyed playing cards with friends and bowling in several neighborhood leagues. In the 1970s, she learned how to water ski on the three rivers of Pittsburgh. Her greatest joy was performing stage acts with the St. Teresa Players, bringing smiles and laughter to various senior centers from the 1980s through the early 2010s. Jane was proud of her singing and tap-dancing with her St. Teresa friends.

After living her adult life in the North Hills and before celebrating her 90th birthday, Janie became a resident of Cumberland Crossing Manor. Over the last phase of her life, she appreciated the Manor's daily care and activity options such as shopping and restaurant outings plus musical entertainment.

Friends will be received on Tuesday, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., at SIMONS FUNERAL HOME, INC., 7720 Perry Highway. A funeral service will be held at the Simon Chapel, starting at 12 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Cumberland Crossing Manor or Hope Hospice of Pittsburgh.
