MARY LOU (HARPSTER)

Mary Lou (Harpster) McKinley, age 92, of Mt. Lebanon, formerly of Weirton, West Virginia, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Wednesday, July 29, 2026.

Born in Pittsburgh, she was the beloved daughter of the late Howard and Margaret Harpster. Mary Lou was the devoted wife of the late Robert John McKinley and was also preceded in death by her cherished companion, Andy DiRemigio.

She was the loving mother of Robert (Stephany) McKinley, Susan (George) Liptak, and Jeffrey (Kathleen) McKinley. She was a cherished grandmother to Nathan, Rachel, and Michael Liptak; Chelsea and Philip Meli; and a proud great-grandmother to Jack Pennline. Mary Lou was the beloved twin sister of Marcia (Perry) Swanson and sister of the late Anne (Roger) Figgins. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Mary Lou lived a life filled with faith, laughter, and love. She was an avid sports fan whose heart always belonged to her Pittsburgh teams. She especially enjoyed golfing with family and friends at Williams Country Club, where she made many treasured memories. An enthusiastic bridge player, she loved gathering with her card clubs in Weirton and later at Brookdale, where she eagerly taught the game to anyone who wanted to learn.

She was a devoted member of Cove United Presbyterian Church for more than 50 years, where she served as a Deacon, Trustee, and choir member, generously sharing her time, talents, and compassion with her church family.

Those who knew Mary Lou will remember her warm smile, kind heart, and wonderful sense of humor. Even during life's greatest challenges, she continued to bring laughter to those around her. Her remarkable ability to overcome adversity earned her the affectionate nickname, "The Comeback Kid." Above all, she treasured her family and found her greatest joy in spending time with those she loved.

Family and friends are welcome to celebrate Mary Lou's life on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at FREYVOGEL-SLATER FUNERAL DIRECTORS, 112 Fort Couch Road, Bethel Park, PA 15241 (412-835-1860). A funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be private.
