MALONEY
MARY MARGARET
Mary Margaret Maloney, 97, resident of Upper Saint Clair, PA, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, under the tender care of Commonwealth Hospice. Born in Denver, CO, in 1927, Mary was raised in Strafford, PA. Prior to moving to Upper Saint Clair, she enjoyed most of her retirement years in Jensen Beach, FL, and was a resident of Mahwah and Upper Saddle River, NJ, prior to retirement.
Mary was the beloved and devoted wife of the late Vincent J. Maloney, Sr., to whom she was married for 67 years. They first met at a USO dance while he was attending Villanova, and were married in 1948. Together they built a life filled with love, family, Catholic faith, and partnership. They had the kind of bond that defined the Greatest Generation.
She is survived by her son, Vincent Maloney (Elaine); daughters, Sharon Newton (Steven) and Erin Fortunato (Darryl); cherished grandchildren, David (Alvina) and Kevin Newton, Brendan and Keira Fortunato; and many nieces and nephews.
Mary graduated from St. Catherine's High School and attended Immaculata University in the Mainline area of Philadelphia. As a youth, she enjoyed figure skating and playing basketball. Later in her life, she enjoyed tennis and was a very skilled duplicate bridge player. She pursued these activities with her husband as her teammate.
After years of raising her children, Mary returned to the work force as a Real Estate Agent for ten years with Better Homes and Gardens of Saddle River, NJ. During this later stage of her life, she loved demonstrating her green thumb and spending time with family and grandchildren. She found joy in traveling across the U.S., and to many countries, including Ireland, Netherlands, Italy and France, where she enjoyed the French Open and bicycle trips.
Mary continued to be active in Florida after moving there when her husband retired. Mary volunteered with Meals on Wheels and was a volunteer for Guardian ad Litem for the state of Florida for many years. She saw this work as a meaningful way to contribute to her community.
Mary was of the Catholic faith. She lived that faith as she cared deeply for her family, her community, and her country. She was loved by many for her sense of humor, enthusiasm for life, strong determination and creativity. While her family and friends will miss her deeply, we are forever grateful for the life she lived.
