MARY V. PANCZYK Obituary
Pittsburgh - PANCZYK MARY V. Of Pittsburgh, Mary V. Panczyk, age 84, died September 18, at home, after a short illness. Born October 16, 1940, in Boston, Massachusetts, she was the daughter of Martin and Margaret (Durant) Cahill. She graduated from Cheverus High School in Malden, MA in 1958.
She married Michael Panczyk in 1961. She liked to say she "heard bells" when they met as teenagers, and their marriage of 64 years was honest and beautiful. As newlyweds in 1961, they moved from Boston to attend the University of Florida, where for eight years they made friends and memories that would last a lifetime. Their drives to and from holidays were joyful adventures.
As a young mother, Mary was always giving and always home for her children - before school, during lunch, after school - and we grew up in safety and love. Our summers and holidays were magnificent. She would become a beloved mother-in-law to our spouses and, to our children, she was "Mimi," which says everything.
She was engaged in community affairs in the 1980s, helping to create Festival '84, the Mt. Lebanon Schools Foundation, and the Mt. Lebanon Diamond Jubilee Celebration. She loved art and language. She was a reader of incredible breadth and a gifted writer. The written word streamed through her without effort. For her many graces, she had an equal measure of grit, suffering ill-health with extraordinary patience and courage for forty years. She showed what it means to persevere as well as to give, and she will endure in our memories.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother, Billy; and sister, Gina. Surviving in addition to her husband, Michael; daughter, Kelley Bowen and her husband, Torre of Mt. Lebanon; sons, Micah Panczyk and his wife, Raquel of Phoenix, AZ; Aaron Panczyk and his wife, Kate of Mt. Lebanon and Simon Panczyk and his wife, Cylia of Long Beach, CA; five grandchildren, Michael Panczyk, Josie Panczyk, Benjamin Bowen, Max Bowen and Isla Panczyk; sister, Becky Relph and her husband, Sam of Malden; brother, Jim Cahill and his wife, Judy of Maine; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 2 P.M. to 4 P.M. and from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M., Saturday, September 27, 2025, at BEINHAUER FUNERAL HOME, 2828 Washington Road, McMurray, PA 15317. A Service of Remembrance will be held at the same location, at 10 A.M., Sunday, September 28, 2025.
