MATTHEW DOUGLAS
Age 46, formerly of Pittsburgh and most recently a resident of Clearwater Beach, FL, passed away on November 29, 2025, in a tragic accident in Ben Avon, PA. His loss is immeasurable to all who knew and loved him.
Born on May 29, 1979, Matthew lived a life marked by faith, service, devotion to family, and an unwavering commitment to his community. A proud graduate of Hampton High School, he began serving others early by working as an EMT in the Pittsburgh area, work he continued while putting himself through college at Youngstown State University. He later earned his MBA from Waynesburg University, laying the foundation for a distinguished 20-plus-year career in healthcare leadership.
Matthew excelled as a healthcare executive, and among his many accomplishments, he was especially proud of helping guide a New York City area health system through the unprecedented challenges of the COVID-19 crisis. His steady leadership, compassion, and courage during that time embodied the generosity and strength he brought to every part of his life.
Matthew's greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his beloved children, Maddy (16) and Luke (13), whom he shared with a former partner, and Willa (three), whom he and his wife, Tracy, lovingly welcomed together. He is also survived by Tracy, his devoted wife and companion; his mother, Sandy; and his sister, Melissa Shurina, and her husband, Justin. Matthew was a proud uncle to Melissa's children, Sydney (12) and Drew (10), who adored their uncle and will forever treasure his love and guidance.
Matthew is additionally mourned by his loving in-laws, Wanda and Tom Loope; his mother and father-in-law, and his brothers and sisters-in-law, Peter and Amy Loope, and Ryan and Corri Loope. He also leaves behind his cherished nieces and nephews from the Loope family, Taylor (22), Maddi (21), Anna (20), Tommy (17), and Mackenzie (9), all of whom held a special place in his heart. Matthew was embraced as a true member of the Loope family, and the bonds he shared with them were filled with warmth, humor, and mutual devotion.
Matthew's passing reunites him in heaven with his father, Doug, whom he loved deeply and honored throughout his life.
A man grounded deeply in his Christian faith, Matthew prided himself on serving the Lord, his family, his friends, and the broader community. Beyond his vocation and family life, he cherished time spent fishing, hunting, and celebrating everything related to Pittsburgh sports—lifelong passions he eagerly shared with those he loved.
A service honoring Matthew's life will be held at 3:00 PM EST, on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at Parkwood Church, 4289 Mount Royal Boulevard, Allison Park, PA 15101. All who were touched by his life are welcome to attend.
Matthew leaves behind a legacy of kindness, loyalty, humor, and unwavering love. He will be profoundly missed and forever remembered.
"I am with you always." –Matthew 28:20
