MELVIN LEO


Age 97, born October 24, 1928, in his family home in Marysville, Kansas. He served in the Navy from 1946-1948, in Panama, earning the title of WWII veteran. He attended Kansas State University and graduated in 1952 with the degree of bachelor of science in architectural engineering. He met his wife, Phyllis, who was his dance instructor, in Gary, Indiana, while he was working in Chicago. They were married for almost 55 years and had three children. Later, the family moved to Illinois and then was transferred to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania when he worked as an engineer with American Bridge. On December 23, 2025, he passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by his children and eldest granddaughter.



In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Phyllis Himebrook; his daughter, Kathleen Piercy; grandson, Daniel Snyder; and siblings, Rosemary, Richard and Arlene.



Surviving are his daughters, Leigh (John) Snyder, Gwyn (David) Groh; grandchildren, Mindi Snyder, Nikki (Jordan) Stoltzfus, Ryan Piercy and Dustin (Bree) Groh; step-grandfather of Nathan Piercy and Mathias (Kim) Piercy; great-grandchildren, Hadley, Nora, Nolan, Halle, Eliza, Rae, Jubie; step-great-grandchildren, Lauren, Corbin, Carson and Eli Piercy.



He had a love of photography and was never without his camera. He was very active in the AARP and enjoyed traveling with the group, serving as president for several years.



He took pride in his age and independence until the age of 96. He loved spending time with his daughters, especially attending many Community Band South concerts. He also enjoyed providing a family swimming pool and spending time with his friend, Alice.



He was a devout Catholic and a long time member of St. Louise Parish. He was a believer in Christ and is now reunited with his family and friends and Jesus in his heavenly home.



Funeral arrangements by BEINHAUERS. Friends welcome at 2828 Washington Road, Peter's Township, Monday, December 29, 2025, 3-5 P.M. and 6-8 P.M. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Louise de Marillac Church, Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at 10:30 A.M.
