SMOLTER

NELSON PRESLEY

Nelson Presley Smolter, 72, of Shaler Township, passed away peacefully at home on July 22, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. Born in Pittsburgh on January 8, 1953, to Nelson Presley Smolter II and Elizabeth McChesney, he was preceded in death by brother, Anthony Ganster (Carol), Betty Lang (Earl), and Peter Smolter. He was a proud veteran of the United States Navy and carried the resilience of service into many areas of his life. He was an avid story teller with a larger than life personality. His stories could hold a room, and told tales of a life well lived and a mind that was wildly creative. A family legacy that you heard once and never forgot. He is survived by his beloved wife Mary Smolter; four daughters, Nicole (Lenix), Katie (Michael), Valerie Bennardo (Nicholas) and Melanie; six grandchildren, Nicholas, Jennie, Maddie, Miles, Samantha, and John; and many nieces and nephews. Friends will be received on Sunday from 1 to 3 and 5 to 8 PM at the BOCK FUNERAL HOME, LTD., 1500 Mt. Royal Blvd., Glenshaw, where a Blessing Service will be held at 7:30 PM. Burial to follow Monday morning at 11 AM. Per the family's request in limiting flowers, donations may be sent to VFW Post 9199.
