NORBERT J.

Of Upper St. Clair, age 87, passed away on May 25, 2025, after a brief hospital stay, surrounded by his loved ones. He is survived by his devoted partner, Janet Rogala; his brother, Garrett Connors; his children, Tim (wife Kathy) and Chris (wife Amy); and his grandchildren, Kate, Claire, Daniel, Sam and Maggie. He was predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Carole (Morgan); his parents, Norbert, Sr. and Mary Semilda (Sullivan) Connors; and his brothers, James and Donald Connors.

Norb was born in Philadelphia and also lived in New York and Baltimore, before arriving in Mt. Lebanon, Pennsylvania in 8th grade, where he attended St. Bernard's and Mt. Lebanon High School. After graduating in 1955, he attended Pennsylvania State University, where he earned a B.S. in accounting and became a life-long fan of the Nittany Lions. He started working for U.S. Steel in 1960 and remained there for 37 years, rising from a trainee in accounting to eventually become the Chief Information Officer. After retirement from the U.S. Steel, he spent another seven years with IBM.

In 1962, U.S. Steel sent Norb to programming classes at IBM, where his teacher was Carole Morgan. They were married in 1963 and had Tim and Chris in the next two years. The family moved regularly as his career progressed, living near Chicago, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and Chicago again, before returning to Upper St. Clair, in 1978 for good.

Norb enjoyed making bad puns and strong cocktails, jitterbugging, relaxing on the beach and cracking crabs afterward. He made many friends and sustained those friendships for his entire life. Most of all, he was devoted to his family. He took tender care of Carole as she suffered through a cruel and debilitating degenerative neurological disease in the last years of her life. Later, Norb was fortunate to find happiness with his cherished partner, Janet.

Visitors will be received Friday May 30, from 2-4pm and 6-8 pm, at BEINHAUER FUNERAL HOME, 2828 Washington Road, McMurray, PA 15317. A Funeral Mass will be said Saturday, May 31, at 10am, at St. John Capistran Church, 1610 McMillan Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15241, with Burial to follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 2900 Washington Road, McMurray, PA 15317-3278.
