PATRICIA L.

Patricia L. Valoon, age 88, of Gibsonia, PA, formerly New York, NY, died on July 7, 2025. Born in McKeesport, PA, on November 11, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Sara Gleditsch Valoon and William Charles Valoon. Lifetime partner of the late Grace Evelyn Davidson. Sister of the late Diane E. Horvath. Patricia is survived by a niece, Deidre Tyler, a great-niece and nephew, Sara B. Kee and Dillon Timothy Kee, many adopted nieces and their families, Lauren and Ray Lazzaro and their family, and many cousins and dear friends.

Pat was a graduate of the Western Pennsylvania Hospital School of Nursing; received a Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing from Duquesne University, and a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Colorado. She had a long and distinguished career in nursing achieving preeminence in positions at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh and University of Colorado School of Nursing.

The capstone of her career was her position as Director of Nursing and Senior Administrator of New York University Medical Center in New York City, a position she retired from in 1996 after 32 years of service to the medical center. The most meaningful of the many awards she received during her nursing career, were the creation of the annual Valoon Nursing Leadership Lecture Series at NYU Medical Center, being inducted to the newly established Hall of Fame from Duquesne University in 2012, and having a study hall named for her and Grace Davidson at the new NYU School of Nursing.

She was a member and former Executive Director of New York Organization of Nurse Executives, and following retirement, served for four years as president of the Auxiliary of New York University Medical Center and President of the deacons at the Tenafly Presbyterian Church in New Jersey. After moving to Pittsburgh, Pat became an active member of the East Liberty Presbyterian Church where she served as an Elder, a member of the Social Justice Committee, and Health Ministry Committee. In addition, she served as member and then president of the Duquesne University Nursing Alumni Association, member and historian and treasurer of the Board of the Pittsburgh Symphony North, and a volunteer patient representative at West Penn-Allegheny Health on the North Side.

Family and friends are invited to a memorial service on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at 10 a.m. in SCHELLHAAS FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, LTD., 5864 Heckert Road, Bakerstown, PA 15007. Private interment will be held in Versailles Cemetery, McKeesport, PA.
