HOPKINSON

PATRICIA "PATTY" (BECKER)

Patricia "Patty" (Becker) Hopkinson, a generous, loving, and deeply caring woman, passed away peacefully in her home on October 12th, 2025 after a four year battle with pancreatic cancer, surrounded by love and the legacy of a life devoted to others.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Louise (Abt) Becker; her father, Eugene Becker; and her son, Michael J. Miller.

Patty was the beloved wife of Ronald Hopkinson, devoted mother of Linda (Brendan) Ryan and Barbara Miller; and her favorite title, "Buba," to Kevin Ryan and Lauren Ryan.

She is also survived by her siblings, Richard (Patrycia) Becker, James (Barbara) Becker, Mary Lou (Greg) Braden, Eugene (Bertha) Becker, Ruth (Henry) Witas, Frances (Joseph) Martin; many nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; and one great-great nephew.

Born in Sharpsburg on April 19, 1942, She dedicated her career to raising a community of children during her 34 years of running a home childcare business. She treated each child as her own and loved them unconditionally.

A 50-year resident of Aspinwall, she was a proud and active member of the Aspinwall Women's Club and the Civic Association, always stepping up to serve her neighbors, whether as the Easter Bunny delivering joy to children, preparing Halloween treat bags, and running the concession stand. She helped to start the girls' basketball team at St. Scho's. Her spirit was infectious, her dedication unwavering.

She wore many hats, quite literally, as a member of the Red Hat Society, starting a chapter, The Red Bonnet Bikers. She walked every day with Ron and many miles as a leader with the Ramblers, guiding walks through Etna, Sharpsburg, and Aspinwall. An active member of the Cyclepaths, she explored the world on two wheels, even biking through the tulip-lined paths of Holland.

She found joy in movement; as a 62-year member of the R.E. Club, she was always dancing. Whether line dancing, kolo dancing, or German dancing with the Isartalers she was on every dance floor.

She competed in the Senior Olympics, where she proudly took home two silver medals. With heart and humility, she served as a volunteer with Meals on Wheels, BOLD (walking with the blind in Monroeville), and for the homeless, where she volunteered, distributing lunches, blankets, and clothes each Monday night, rain or snow. In the winter, she could be found cross-country skiing or on the slopes with Der Sitzmark ski club.

She never sought recognition, she lived humbly, believing, "Being on earth is not to see how important we can become, but to see how much of a difference we can make in the lives of others." She made that difference, in every bagged lunch, every warm smile, and every child that came through her daycare.

Her life was a testament to service, friendship, and joy. She leaves behind a loving family, endless communities of friends, and fellow volunteers who will continue to walk, dance, and serve in her honor.

She had the most beautiful Long Becker Goodbye.
