RICHARD E. "RICH"

Age 73, of Pittsburgh, passed away peacefully on November 25, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Born on October 21, 1951, Rich lived a life defined by hard work, devotion to his family, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys of life.

Rich is survived by his beloved wife of many years, Martha Laux (Sprys); his cherished daughter, Kate Emberg (Laux); his son-in-law, Joshua Emberg; and his treasured grandson, August "Auggie" Emberg. Auggie was named in honor of August Braun, Rich's Great-Grandfather.

Rich was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Laux Sr. and Jean Laux (Merz), whose guidance and values shaped the man he became.

Rich's career as a Superintendent and Foreman with Pittsburgh Pile Drivers, Local #2264, alongside his father, Dick Laux Sr., left an indelible mark on the Pittsburgh region. Their strong and enduring work can be seen in the highways, bridges, and critical infrastructure they helped build, standing as a testament to their craftsmanship and dedication.

Outside of work, Rich found joy in the outdoors, spending countless happy hours hunting and fishing with his lifelong best friends from "The Hill." Later in life, his grandson Auggie became the light of his life, filling his days with joy and pride. Rich also loved animals, and the family's beautiful yellow lab, Geronimo, held a special place in his heart.

As a testament to Rich's strength and determination, he fought through many serious illnesses over the last decade, including an eight-year battle with leukemia. Rich's legacy is one of strength, loyalty, and love, reflected in the lasting structures he built, the family he adored, and the friendships he treasured.

Friends received Friday 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. at SIMONS FUNERAL HOME, INC., 7720 Perry Highway, where a funeral service will be held Friday at 2 p.m.
