BARTOLOWITS
RICHARD EUGENE
Richard Eugene Bartolowits, 90, a lifelong resident of Reserve Township, passed away on Sunday, June 8, 2025, at his home with family. Born on August 18, 1934, Rich was one of seven sons to Austrian immigrant parents, the late John and Aloisa (Kloiver) Bartolowits. He was preceded in death by his brothers John (Pittsburgh), Emil (Alaska), William (Texas) Edward (Pittsburgh), and his grandson, Richard (Michigan). He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Eleanor (Neubauer); his brothers: Harry and Robert of Pittsburgh; his six children: Richard, Thomas, Timothy (Natalie) and Douglas (Nicole) of Pittsburgh; Daniel (Lisa) of Sykesville, Maryland; and, Deborah Hamilton (Mark) of Ligonier; his 14 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Rich's life was one of service: to his country, family and church. After graduation, he served overseas in the Korean War as a Tech Sergeant for the United States Air Force. Following his honorable discharge, he began his professional career as a home builder for Ryan Homes and then as the owner of Bartolowits Construction. A devoted Catholic, Rich tirelessly applied his trade to his parish, Most Holy Name of Jesus and St. Anthony Chapel in the Troy Hill neighborhood of Pittsburgh. Throughout his life, Rich was a member of St. Anthony Lyceum, Allegheny Country Rifle Club, American Legion, and VFW.
Rich was an avid outdoorsman, accomplished gunsmith and enjoyed playing cards, bowling and golf. He could always be found building, repairing or remodeling something. His six children kept him busy with many construction and remodeling projects. His self-prepared blueprints were the model of perfection, completing his last set just a few months ago. Rich built his second home in Tionesta, PA in 1964. Today, 61 years later, it remains a home away from home enjoyed by his children and grandchildren.
A man known by many names, but simply by "pap" to his family, Rich treasured his time in the woods as an avid hunter. He took his last trophy at the age of 89 with a crossbow. His enjoyment of the outdoors was only surpassed by the happiness of gatherings with family and friends, watching his beloved Pirates, Penguins and Steelers, or trading tales about old times and "the one that got away". He embraced the challenges of life with a sense of resolve, and life's blessings with deep gratitude.
Family and friends will be received Thursday, June 12, 2025, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the HUGHES FUNERAL HOME, INC., 1501 Lowrie Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15212-Troy Hill. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, June 13, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. in Most Holy Name Church, 1520 Claim Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15212 - Troy Hill (EVERYONE PLEASE MEET AT THE CHURCH), followed by a burial with military honors at Most Holy Name Cemetery on Mt.
