RICHARD FRANCIS O'CONNOR Obituary
O'CONNOR
RICHARD FRANCIS
Richard F. O'Connor, of Brookline, passed peacefully in his sleep on August 9, 2025. He was born on June 7, 1944, the day after D Day, the son of Francis J. and Alice Lousie (née Rigby) O'Connor.
Richard grew up in Mount Washington and graduated from St. Justin High School. As a youth, he loved baseball and could often be found at Bigbee Field hoping to hear Bob Prince say "... And there goes O'Connor hitting another high one over the fence ..." His entire work career was at Duquesne Light Company. He started in the mail room just after high school and retired years later as a utility placement specialist. He was an avid golfer and participated in many Variety Club of Pittsburgh Annual Charity Tournaments. He enjoyed driving his cars, especially that red Monte Carlo, which became a trademark at the golf outings. If a Pittsburgh team was involved in any sport, he was a fan and could offer informed commentary on demand. Baseball and football were his favorites. He never sought the limelight but was a devoted son, always at the ready to assist his parents in their final years.
Richard is survived by two sons, Thomas R. O'Connor of Pittsburgh and David P. (Dee Dee) O'Connor of Chicago. His grandchildren include Tiffany, Ray, Tanner (Ana), Ty Francis and Trenton; along with great-grandchildren, Valeria, Victoria, Angel, Moises, Eva and Kyla. Richard is also survived by his sister, Sandra L O'Connor of NC; and his special cousin and "Pittsburgh sister," Debra E Ball.
The family is most grateful for the excellent care and comfort he received from the able staff at Fair Oaks Senior Living and from Anova Hospice. There are many who stepped in along the journey and we thank all.
