RICHARD GEORGE "DICK"
Two weeks shy of 95, Richard George "Dick" Hufnagel, Sr., passed peacefully on Wednesday, January 21, 2026.
Adored husband of 67 years of the late Adrienne Salome (Kelly) Hufnagel. Son of the late Lawrence and Irma (Petgen) Hufnagel. Loving father of Adrienne Hufnagel-Spanovich, Susan (John) Hufnagel, Carol (John) Werner, Nancy (Mark) Centofanti, Richard, Jr. (Justine), and Jeffrey (Michele). Beloved grandfather of 15 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Cherished brother of the late Lawrence, Irma Mohney, Joseph, and William. Dick also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.
Dick was born in Pittsburgh and raised in Dormont, where he played football and wrestled for Dormont High and earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He hitchhiked daily to and from Duquesne University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in business, and upon graduation began a successful career in sales.
After meeting at work and subsequently marrying "the beautiful girl in the red coat," Dick and Adrienne settled in Bethel Park, where they lived happily for 64 years.
A proud, devoted family man, if Dick wasn't coaching for his children in their various sports, then he was watching them play. As time went by, he enjoyed watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren playing sports as well. If the Pittsburgh Steelers were playing, you'd find Dick and Adrienne glued to the TV with the sound turned off as Myron Cope reported the game on the radio. Pirate games were listened to on the radio while Dick spent joyous hours tending to his bountiful vegetable garden.
A devout Catholic, Dick was very active in his home parish, St. Louise de Marillac. In 1965, Dick, along with his good friend, Fr. John Schonhardt, founded the St. Louise Men's Golf League, which is still going strong today and boasts being the longest-standing private golf league in the United States.
Besides volunteering within the church, Dick was an active volunteer for the Jubilee Soup Kitchen and for Meals on Wheels. Dick also contributed to most every charity that crossed his path.
As an Eagle Scout, Dick was the physical embodiment of the Scout Law. He was trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, and reverent. Add to that list: selfless, humble, thoughtful, and generous to a fault, with a delightful sense of humor, which he kept to the end. These wonderful attributes gained him numerous loyal friends over the years, many of whom predeceased Dick and, we presume, were waiting at the Pearly Gates for him with golf clubs over shoulders and ice-cold beers in hands. Likely Dick will join them for a round, but not before greeting and sharing a dance with the love of his life, his wife, Adrienne, "the beautiful girl in the red coat."
We love you; we miss you, and we pray that you are, as always, "super, keen, fine, and wonderful."
