Age 96, of Plum, originally from Windber, PA on Tuesday, November 29, 2022. Husband of the late Dolores Ann (Shaffer) McCann; loving father of Robert, Brian (Nancey); grandfather of Meredith, Madeline (Jack), and Ryan; great grandfather of John; brother of Doris, Linda and the late Mary Lou, Nova, Inez, Janet, Jean and Jack; also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Bob was a WWII US Navy Veteran. He worked at the Pittsburgh Post Gazette as a typesetter and was a member of the Typographical Union #7 where he served as the secretary/treasurer. After his retirement, Bob was a devoted volunteer at Forbes Regional Hospital, Presbyterian Senior Care in Oakmont, and Meals on Wheels. Leaving a legacy of love and care, he will be greatly missed by all those who knew him. He had a nickname for everyone, sure to put a smile on your face! His tender nature was seen in his dedication to visiting friends in hospitals and care facilities, never missing a birthday or anniversary, and looking in on neighbors, all of whom affectionately called him Uncle Bob. He was a lover of dogs, especially Riley Rabbit. Bob found joy in his life through simple things, he loved his Pittsburgh sports teams, most of all the Steelers and really enjoyed taking time to care for his vehicles. Friends received, Friday, 2-4 and 6-8 pm at SOXMAN FUNERAL HOMES, LTD./Roth Chapel,7450 Saltsburg Road (at Universal Road) Penn Hills. Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Fr. Joe Mele will be held Saturday, 12:30 pm in St. John the Baptist Church of Holy Family Parish, where Bob served on the Bereavement ministry and as an usher for over 53 years. The blessing of Bob's presence in the lives of all who knew him was as sweet as the root beer barrel candies that he carried everywhere he went.
