ROBERT R. VLAH

Age 88, of Pittsburgh, passed away peacefully, on September 10, 2025.
Born and raised in the Lawrenceville neighborhood of Pittsburgh, Bob had a lifelong knack for storytelling — especially when it came to the many adventures of his Lawrenceville boyhood. His family will remember him not only for his colorful tales but for his honesty, kindness, and unshakable sense of loyalty.
Bob had a beautiful singing voice and striking blue eyes. He was an ardent Pittsburgh sports fan, but his true joy during the Steelers season came from tailgating on the frigid North Shore with relatives and friends. And in fact, the venue never mattered to Bob so much as the company. On the back porch of the Vlahs' Hyde Street home, Bob welcomed all visitors with his distinctively warm "Hey!" and a cold can of Schmidt's beer.
Bob is survived by the love of his life, Connie M. Vlah, who he adored beyond measure. Together, they raised a loving family: Robert R. Vlah, Jr. (Patricia), Richard Vlah (Melanie) and Diana Jones (Michael). He was the proud grandfather of Jillian M. and Mark Vlah; Richard (Jillian J.), Michael and Carly Vlah and Sarah and David Jones. He is also survived by his sister, Shirley Hyland (the late Dale).
Even in later years, Bob never lost his youthful spirit. He was known to grab Connie by the hand and slow dance around the living room to "She" by Elvis Costello, not caring who was watching. That simple joy reflected the way Bob lived each day: honoring his roots, loving his family, and appreciating the beauty in the simple things.
Family and friends are invited for Visitation, on Sunday, September 14, 2025, from 2 p.m. - 8 p.m., at PITTSBURGH CREMATION & FUNERAL CARE, 3287 Washington Rd., McMurray, PA 15317. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, September 15, 2025, at St. Benedict the Abbott, at 10 a.m., everyone please meet at the church. Burial with full military honors will follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery. All arrangements are entrusted to Pittsburgh Cremation and Funeral Care.
