ROBERT WILLIAM EDMONDS, JR. Obituary
EDMONDS, JR.
ROBERT WILLIAM
The earthly journey of Robert William Edmonds, Jr. ended, on Tuesday, July 29, as he peacefully and unexpectedly passed away at home. Bob was born March 30, 1945, in Cleveland, OH, to parents, Dr. Robert W. Edmonds and Ruth (Kuzell) Edmonds. He grew up in Shaker Heights, OH, graduating from Shaker Heights H.S. in 1963 and earning his B.A. degree in English from Miami University in 1967.
Bob's 35-year career in Sales was spent as an employee of the railroad, serving 20 years in Automotive Sales in Detroit and 15 years as Regional Sales Director in Pittsburgh. He took an early retirement from CSX in March, 2004, leaving him many years of leisure time to pursue activities he enjoyed. He devoted his next 21 years to playing many games of golf and participating in lots of gin rummy matches with friends at Chartiers Country Club, where he was known as "Chooch," the railroad guy.
Bob was an avid sports enthusiast, who had an uncanny ability to recall statistics, events and players from "years past and present." He was a season ticket holder for his beloved Cleveland Browns, and he never missed a televised Cleveland Indians baseball game. Since his early years working for the railroad in the Detroit, MI area, Bob enjoyed attending the harness horse races and placing his "educated and calculated" wagers. He continued this interesting hobby in retirement at the nearby Meadows Race Track in Washington, where he acquired many friends who were fellow racing fans, horse owners and drivers. He last attended the "Adios Race for the Orchids" on July 26.
Bob is survived by his wife of 55 years, Valerie "Gail"; his two sons, Rob (Sandra) of Cleveland and Michael (Andrea) of McMurray. He proudly leaves a family legacy of five grandchildren: Gavin (17), Brandon (15), Rocco (14), Alaina (13) and Brock (9). Bob has one sister, Sarah "Sally" Richards from Missoula, MT, and her children, Hank and Holly. Surviving are many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews. Bob had a particularly close relationship of 45 years with his adopted sister-in-law, Flor Ugarte, who, according to Bob, "is the best person I know."
Bob loved life, his family, his friends and sports. He will truly be missed here in his earthly home, but he will be embraced and welcomed as he arrives in his heavenly home.
