After a courageous struggle with neuroendocrine cancer at his home in Braddock Hills, Roy Getty Arthrell, Jr. went home to the Lord on Saturday, June 27, 2026, just shy of his 75th birthday. He was the son of the late Roy Sr. and Jean Arthrell, and the brother of Charles (Ann), and the late David, all of Braddock Hills. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Laura (Varuola) Arthrell. He leaves sons Roy G. III (Tracey), Jimmy (Ashley), Lucas Spieler (Jessica), and Marty Spieler (Angela). He was preceded in death by his daughter Sharon Smith. Roy was a loving Papa Bear to nieces Nikole (Brittany) Kelley and Annajean (Steven) Runion and Pap Pap to 15 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. He was known to some as "Bullmo" or "Uncle Bull."

A 1969 graduate of Swissvale High School, Roy worked as a crew scheduler and clerk for the Union Railroad Company for 36 years. Early in that time, he served in Vietnam with the U.S. Army. After his retirement, he and Laura purchased what became Roy's by the Tracks in Finleyville, a landmark tavern in that town. He oversaw his investment until his death and will be greatly missed by that community and the many friends he made there.

Throughout his life, Roy was a coach of basketball, football, and especially baseball to many young people in Braddock Hills, Swissvale, and Woodland Hills. They remember him for his fairness and mentorship, not just in finding the "right fit" for a player, but in making them happy to have had their time in sports with him. He loved sports in general, especially all Pittsburgh teams, and was famous for running the Braddock Hills Men's Softball League for many years.

Roy had a strong tenor voice (never sharp, never flat) and used it with joy all his life, whether at weddings, church choir, karaoke (the Temps and Elvis), or just singing with the band. He loved musical theater and met his wife there in the Muses, forming a duet that never ended. Most recently, they sang with the Monroeville Chorus.

Most importantly, Roy Arthrell was a generous and caring man. He gave scholarships and fundraisers for anyone with a need. He supported food banks in Finleyville and Braddock, and much more. He let no one - especially a child - go hungry.

Family and friends were received on WEDNESDAY, July 1, 2026, from 2-7 p.m. at the JOBE FUNERAL HOME (Monroeville/Plum) location 445 Beatty Rd., Monroeville, PA 15146 where the blessing service will begin at 7 p.m. Roy and Sharon will be interred together at the Mt.
