KEATING

RUTH H.

Of Pittsburgh and Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully, at the age of 99, surrounded by family, on Friday, March 27, 2026.

Ruth Lillian Haas was born on July 12, 1926, in Lawrenceville, Pennsylvania, to William and Lillian Haas. Ruth did not have any siblings, but she grew up with many friends.

Ruth graduated from Peabody High School, and then went on to work at Bell Telephone Company and Gulf Oil Company.

Ruth met the first love of her life, Eugene Yost, at Bell Telephone Company. They married in 1947 and together they enjoyed 23 years of marriage. Ruth and Eugene were blessed with two children: Candace Diana Yost and Richard Eugene Yost.

Several years after Eugene passed, Ruth married her long-time neighbor, William Keating, in 1986. Their marriage lasted until Bill's passing in 2010.

The name Ruth means "friend to all," and that she was. She was genuinely invested in the lives of her friends and family. Ruth enjoyed living life to the fullest, and she was blessed with a long, healthy life.

Ruth was the self-proclaimed "matriarch" and a lifetime member of Smithfield United Church of Christ. She was steadfast, convicted, and unwavering in her faith. Her integral involvement in Women's Fellowship, the Order of the Eastern Star (Worthy Matron), and the Daughters of the Nile meant so much to her.

She had a "gift for gab," and loved talking on the phone to anyone and everyone (even telemarketers). Her strongly held beliefs and opinions were always made known. If your opinion differed from hers, she was not afraid of a good argument.

Ruth was a true "yinzer" who intently followed all Pittsburgh sports. As a patron of the arts, she absolutely loved seeing musicals in the Cultural District.

Ruth held her faith in God, family, friends, and traditions above all else. New Year's Day was her favorite holiday, for which she would make the most delicious pork and sauerkraut. She was blessed to know her two great-grandchildren, Arlo and Luca, whom she lovingly referred to as her "sweetie pies."

She is survived by her two children, Candace (Gerard) Solomon and Rick (Jana) Yost; her granddaughter, Christie (Richie) King; and her two great-grandsons, Arlo (4) and Luca (2). She is also survived by many other family members and close friends.

Visitation will be on Thursday, April 2, from 2-4 P.M. and 6-8 P.M., at BEINHAUER FAMILY FUNERAL HOME (2630 West Liberty Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15216).

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, April 3, at 11 A.M., at Beinhauer Family Funeral Home.

A private burial will be held at Smithfield East End Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.

Ruth will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved her.
