SARA TEBBS PENDLETON

On Sunday, July 26, 2026, Sara Tebbs Pendleton Woodside, of Shadyside, passed away at the age of 84. She was the daughter of Linda Heidt Pendleton and Dwight Lyman Pendleton, Jr. Sara was preceded in death by her beloved husband, George Nevin Woodside. She is survived by her sons, Nevin Graham Woodside III (Louise Kay) and Dwight Lyman Pendleton Woodside (Tracy); her four cherished grandchildren, Lowrie Childs Woodside, Sara Tebbs Woodside, Graham Alexander Woodside, and William George Woodside; and her siblings, Jackson "Skip" Holt Gray, Jr. (Rita), Marjorie Heidt Skinner Parker; and sister-in-law, Ruth Woodside Pickering McGregor.

Sara was born in Winchester, Kentucky, and was lovingly raised with the guidance and support of her three paternal aunts, Elizabeth "Betty" Pendleton Taylor, Kate Huntington Pendleton, and Stanley Dudley Pendleton. In 1964, she graduated from Bethany College in West Virginia with a degree in sociology. Bethany held a special place in her family's history, as her great-grandfather, W.K. Pendleton, served as the college's second president.

Following graduation, Sara briefly worked on Capitol Hill before marrying her fellow Bethany College alumnus, George Woodside, in 1965. From 1965 to 1968, she served as a social worker in Pittsburgh's Hill District, where her compassion and commitment to helping others left a lasting impact.

Sara found her greatest joy in raising her two sons. In 1981, she turned her lifelong passion for fashion and design into a career by opening Sara P. Woodside Interiors, a successful interior decorating business that she continued to lead until her passing.

A devoted member of Calvary Episcopal Church, Sara faithfully served on the Altar Guild and generously gave her time helping organize the silent auction for the church's annual bazaar.

Sara had an impeccable eye for fashion and loved staying current with the latest trends while maintaining her timeless sense of style. Her beautifully decorated home reflected her creativity and warmth, filled with treasured family portraits, beloved bunny rabbit collections, and, of course, her favorite jellybeans.

Above all, Sara treasured time with family and friends. She delighted in sharing stories—often with a twinkle in her eye—bringing laughter, wisdom, and warmth to every gathering. Guided by her steadfast faith and optimistic spirit, she had a remarkable ability to find the silver lining in every situation, leaving those around her with comfort, joy, and lasting memories. Sara will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Friends will be received from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 13, at JOHN A. FREYVOGEL SONS, INC., 4900 Centre Avenue at Devonshire Street (freyvogelfuneralhome.com). A service celebrating Sara's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, August 14, at Calvary Episcopal Church.
