SHEILA MARY (WERNTZ)

Age 79, of Downingtown, PA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at home, comforted by her family.

Sheila was born to the late Theodore Werntz and the late Mary Werntz (nee Sheehan) in the Neville Island area outside Pittsburgh, PA, then relocated south of Pittsburgh to the Pleasant Hills area, where she attended St. Elizabeth of Hungary School with her siblings, graduating in 1964. She continued her education at Point Park College, earning an Associate of Science degree in Executive Administration.

In 1968, she met James L. Goldbach, who had just returned with an honorable discharge from the Vietnam War. They were married on May 17, 1969, and shared 57 years of marriage. She held corporate administrative positions, then devoted time to raising her two children, James T. Goldbach and Lindsay A. Douvikas (nee Goldbach). She subsequently restarted her career and was proud to be the Administrator of the Pathology Department at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

Sheila was a devoted and loving grandmother to her three grandsons, Aaron J. Goldbach, Alexander B. Goldbach, and Anastasios J. Douvikas. She was known to take them on neighborhood walks, play games at home, have adventures at the park, and was their loudest fan at their sports and school functions.

In addition to her husband, James, Sheila is survived and remembered by her children and grandchildren; her brother, Daniel Werntz; her sister, Rianna Bryceland (also known as Ann Werntz); brother-in-law, Ralph Goldbach; sister-in-law, Judith Goldbach; late brother-in-law, Alfred Midgley; sister-in-law, Mary Beth Midgley (nee Goldbach) and their families, all of Pittsburgh, PA. Sheila was very proud of her Irish heritage and is survived by a large extended family residing mainly in the southwest of Ireland.

Visitation will be from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., with funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 14, 2026, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 338 Manor Ave., Downingtown, PA 19335. Reception and lunch will follow at 12:30 p.m., at The Desmond Hotel, One Liberty Blvd., Malvern, PA 19355. Burial will be private.
