SHIRLEY L. FAHRNY Obituary

FAHRNY

SHIRLEY L.

Age 94, of Pittsburgh, entered the Heavenly Kingdom, on May 14, 2026. She was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, on June 18, 1931, to the late Harry Leonard Scott and Lottie Emily (Richardson) Scott.

Shirley devoted her entire life to her family; she defined unconditional love through her stubborn persistence to maintain relationships when the world seemed to be falling apart. She made every occasion a special occasion through her iconic poems, hilarious games, cheerful celebrations, and rays of positivity. She truly loved others the way Jesus taught her to do.

As if that was not enough, Shirley's life was full of adventure and fun. She loved to dance, snow tube, swim, waterski, and skydive (30 times!!!). Her love of dance came from a young age when her father taught her how to do the swing dance. She passed this love on to many by teaching others in her work (swimming exercises at the YWCA and years of service at Arthur Murray Dance Studio) and especially to her family by ensuring all of us were not afraid of the water. Her children and grandchildren could not help but follow in her footsteps in her love of adventure and conquering fears! Shirley's memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved her and whose lives were brighter because of her.

She danced into the arms of Jesus and was reunited with her beloved son, John G. Fahrny, III; parents, Harry Leonard Scott and Lottie Emily Scott; brother, Harry (Skip) Leonard Scott, Jr.; husband, John G. Fahrny, Jr.; life-long friend, Joan Donnelly; and many others cherished loved ones who went before her.

She is survived by her two beloved children, Laurie Fahrny-Klaphake and Charles (Valerie) Fahrny; four cherished grandchildren, Mandy (Jeff) Czerniejewski, Torre (Andrew) Johnson, Christopher Fahrny and Jaidan Fahrny; one adored great-grandson, Jameson Todd. Visitation will take place at BEINHAUER FUNERAL HOME, at 2630 West Liberty Avenue, Pittsburgh, 15216, on Monday, May 18, from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. A Funeral Service will be held in St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 933 Brookline Boulevard, Pittsburgh, PA 15226, on Tuesday, May 19, at 11 a.m. Shirley's life was full of giving, and she especially loved giving to those in need. Donations in her name if desired to Northside Common Ministries (https://www.ncmin.org/donate/). Please add tributes at: www.beinhauer.com
