MILLIERN
SHIRLEY
On Monday, December 8, 2025, Shirley Milliern passed away at the age of 73.
Shirley came from a large family. After her high school graduation, she lived in North Side near Annunciation Church. Along the way she met the Grubbs family and joined their household while attending school to become a nurse. She became best friends with John Grubbs and enjoyed his company for many years.
During her nursing career, Shirley worked as a community health clinic nurse for Allegheny County and at Focus on Renewal in McKees Rocks. She also worked as a school nurse for the North Hills School District. Being very proud of her work experience, she kept her nursing license active beyond her retirement.
Always open to adventures with John, Shirley enjoyed time at the docks and on the rivers near the Point. She and John spent many weekends partying and dancing on John's cabin cruiser. With a smile, she shared many amusing stories about time on the boat. Shirley enjoyed friendships and laughter with her fellow boaters!
Shirley loved people and had a large circle of friends. With her best friend John, she sang in the Annunciation, Nativity, and Incarnation parish choirs. Then she joined the Our Lady of Mount Carmel Adult Choir in 2020, shortly after John died in March of 2019. Shirley attended music ministry events and volunteered whenever she could. At choir rehearsal, she sat in the front row among the altos.
On many Sundays, Shirley enjoyed joining friends for brunch after Mass and meeting friends at holiday parties. During the holidays she'd visit her sister Tina's family and her friends Mike and Gina in Cannonsburg. She enjoyed attending parish events as well. She was a regular at the Lenten Fish Fries and at the Parish Picnic in June. During the late summer, she volunteered at the children's activities at the parish festivals.
At a high school reunion a year ago, she met a new friend named Jim Janicki. When they met soon after for lunch at Eat N Park, the two of them renewed their acquaintance and enjoyed talking about their shared interests. Jim liked Shirley from the start! He and Shirley were together often, and Jim took her to his house at Conneaut Lake to meet his family. Since their first meeting, Shirley and Jim spent a lot of time together. Even though Jim worked full time, they often had dinner together or enjoyed a movie together.
Shirleys many friends will miss her dearly: her smile and her caring ways!
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Thursday, at the LAWRENCE T. MILLER FUNERAL HOME, INC., 460 Lincoln Avenue, Bellevue. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Friday, December 12, 2025, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish, Incarnation of the Lord Church. Burial will follow at Union Dale Cemetery.
