Sister Grace Chermack, a member of the School Sisters of St. Francis, United States Province, and in her 73rd year of profession, died on Saturday, June 25th, at Vincentian Home in Pittsburgh, PA, at the age of 92. Sister Grace entered the community in 1947 from Holy Family Parish in Erie, PA and professed her first vows in 1949 at Mt. Assisi Convent in Pittsburgh, PA. She received a Bachelor of Science in Education degree from Mount Mercy College (Carlow University) and a Master of Education degree in Library Science from Duquesne University. Sister taught the elementary grades in schools in Oregon and Pennsylvania and was also a principal in schools in Pennsylvania and Texas. For many years Sister Grace was involved in the faith formation of young people in numerous parishes through their religious education programs. She also served as program director at the Franciscan Renewal Center in Scottsdale, Arizona. From 2016 until her death, Sister was active and faithful to our ministry of prayer. Sister Grace was the daughter of Joseph and Anna (Bardun) Chermack and was preceded in death by them; her brother William Chermack; and her sister, Margaret Barabas. She is survived by her religious community; her brother Joseph Chermack; and her niece Mary Ann Tempestini, of Erie. The viewing and funeral on Thursday, June 30th will be private. Burial will follow in the convent cemetery. Arrangements have been made by LAWRENCE T. MILLER FUNERAL HOME, INC., in Bellevue, PA.
