SR. MARGARET

We commend to your charity the soul of our beloved, Sr. Margaret Walsh, who departed this life on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, in the sixty-third year of her religious life.

Margaret Frances Walsh was born on February 1, 1945, to Charles and Helen (Barch) Walsh. One big sister, Marthann, was awaiting her arrival at home. Another little sister, Helen "Dolly" was yet to be born. Margie grew up in Blessed Sacrament Parish in Natrona Heights, where she attended Blessed Sacrament Elementary and St. Joseph Catholic High School. Impressed by the kindness and service of the sisters, who taught at the schools, Margie contemplated entering a religious community.

Sister Margaret Walsh, formerly Sister Marie Consolata, entered the Sisters of Divine Providence on September 8, 1963, and soon became an unofficial tutor. Still a student herself, Margie had a way of taking complex subjects such as Philosophy and Logic and warmly wrapping the facts in stories that could be understood by eager but bewildered young sisters.

After three years of formation, Margie began her 48-year teaching career. Margie had a keen intellect and a profound enjoyment of anything math related. She taught in many schools throughout the Diocese of Pittsburgh and in Michigan. Her longest assignment was at Providence Heights Alpha School, where she held many titles across those 27 years.

As her golden jubilee celebration in 2013 approached, Sister Margie was asked to describe herself. She chose the following characteristics: quiet, a good listener, generous, loyal, dependable, patient, and persevering. Any person who lived or worked with her would find it hard to disagree. Before the Jubilee Liturgy began, Margie surprised her sister classmates by presenting them with beautiful pendants that displayed the class theme. They were small gifts that were greatly treasured.

Sister Margie found the Serenity Prayer to be very meaningful. It gave her comfort and reassurance to greet each new day with the belief that God was always present to her and to all people she would meet. Sister Margie was eager to bring hope to others through faithful phone calls.

Sister Margie was, in many ways, ahead of her time. In the late '70s and beyond, she was able to immerse herself in the computer world and to tackle anything that resembled technology. Classes were held, and Sister Margie trained many of the sisters as well as her students in the complex world that was so new. Her phone was always answered with patience, kindness, and knowledge. Margie stated, "I am giving help to them; they are giving far more back to me by letting me share their life. I hope to continue to do this service as long as I can or until God has a different plan for me to start."

Sister Margie enjoyed watching movies, dancing, listening to music, and cheering on the Steelers and Penguins. Margie enjoyed the simple things of life, especially hamburgers! During her last years, Sister Margie lost most of her sight and hearing. Her mission remained. Sister Margaret Walsh continued to make God's Providence more visible in this world by making us aware that God walks with us and loves us deeply. May Sister Margie's sisters, Marthann and Dolly brother-in-law, John, her niece and nephews, and all those who knew Sister Margaret be consoled by knowing that they were held in the highest esteem and loved even more.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, August 14, 2026, at 3:00 p.m., in the Visitation Chapel of Kearns Spirituality Center, 9000 Babcock Blvd., Allison Park, PA 15101.
