SUSAN STEWART

Age 73, of McMurray, passed away suddenly in her home on Saturday, June 21, 2025.

Susan Stewart Lutz was the beloved mother of John Thomas (Jeanine) Fahnestock, Gregory (Michael Solomon) Lutz, Matthew (Rebecca) Lutz, and Samantha (William McIntyre) Lutz; and loving grandmother, "Mimi Sue," of Boden and Caroline Fahnestock, Bailey, Eve, and Deacon Lutz, and Charlotte McIntyre. She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas P. and Celestia M. (Downs) Stewart.

Sue, as she was lovingly known, earned a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Pittsburgh. In the early part of her career, she proudly worked at the Vendôme Shops, an exclusive boutique located on the uppermost floor of Kaufmann's Department Store. She then spent more than two decades as a kindergarten and early childhood educator, with the majority of that time spent at Justabout Kids. Ever a savvy businesswoman, Sue forged her way as proprietor of two Subway restaurants in the latter part of her career. There she earned the affectionate nickname, "Subway Sue," from her treasured customers and dear friends. In 2021, Sue retired, selling the franchises to her son Matt, whom she continued to mentor.

Sue was an animal lover and had many pets and grand-pets throughout her life, including her own show horse. She loved traveling, relishing visits to her cabin in the Allegheny National Forest, trips to her winter home in Florida, and European adventures with Greg and Michael. Sue had a larger-than-life personality and easily engaged with others. She was always upbeat - finding the best in every scenario. Her world was her children and grandchildren. The sudden loss of Sue leaves an immense hole in the hearts of those who loved her. She will be greatly missed.
