THOMAS FRANCIS

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Thomas Francis Shanahan, who left us on August 9, 2025, at the age of 63.

He was the second of eight children; and was preceded in death by his father, Thomas F. Shanahan. He is survived by his mother, Billie Shanahan; and siblings, Colleen Major, Maureen (Jim Rodella), John, Jim (Barb), Nancy (Joe Carlini), Katie (Pat Hall) and Megan Shanahan (J. Bartley Cosgrove). He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1987, putting himself through college, while working nights at the local Giant Eagle, in which he took immense pride.

Tom was a beloved husband to Mary Pat, and together they had three wonderful children, Dylan, Ryan and Haley. He was also a beloved uncle to 25 nieces and nephews as well as three great-nieces and nephews.

Life was never dull with Tom, or Tommy as some called. He enjoyed telling stories to everyone and anyone who listened. His main goal was to put a smile on someone's face, whether his stories were made up, exaggerated, or somehow wildly true.

He was a lover of sports, especially the Penguins and Steelers. He loved hockey with all his heart playing from a young age in Bridgeville, coaching his sons, and playing in adult leagues with friends. He shared his love of hockey with his daughter as well, who went on to play field hockey. Even when his kids played sports he didn't know well and couldn't coach, he always supported them at practices and games and acted like he knew exactly what to do.

Halloween was his favorite holiday of the year. He had some of the most outlandish costumes, most of them coming with the least amount of material possible.

Tom's ability to make people laugh and his infectious smile will live on through his family and his extensive number of friends who were also family to him. He always found the best in people. He will never be forgotten.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., at SCHELLHAAS & SONS FUNERAL HOME, 1600 Stone Mansion Dr., Franklin Park, PA 15143. Mass of Christian Burial at Regina Coeli Parish, St. John Neumann Church, on Friday, at 10:30 a.m.
