HARING
VIRGINA LEE (SPENCE)
Age 83, of Pittsburgh, passed away peacefully, on April 8, 2025. She was born on April 26, 1941, in Pittsburgh, where she spent her life surrounded by the people and places she loved.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard W. Haring; and by her parents, John and Mildred Spence. Virginia is survived by her two children: Matthew Haring (Cathy) and Kimberly Palmer (partner Thomas Kaplan); and her cherished grandchildren: Hannah Palmer, Nathaniel Palmer, Andrew Haring and Richard Haring. She is also survived by her loving sister, Mary (Spence) Ford (Michael); and nieces, Megan and Anne Ford.
Virginia was a kind and caring soul, always ready to help others in times of need. She treasured her enduring friendships and stayed close with many through heartfelt conversations, frequent phone calls and handwritten cards and letters. Her warmth and empathy touched all who knew her.
She was a proud graduate of Allegheny General Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1963 and devoted her life to caring for others as a registered nurse. Virginia especially loved working in geriatrics and served for many years as a director of adult day care centers, where her compassion and leadership made a lasting difference in the lives of many.
A devoted Christian, Virginia's faith was the foundation of her life. She actively lived out her beliefs through community service-volunteering at the local food bank, visiting the homebound and offering her time and love wherever it was needed. She also served on the altar guild at her church, a role she loved and took great pride in. She was an avid reader, a lifelong learner, always curious and engaged with the world around her. Her love of trivia was unmatched and was known in the family as the go-to Trivial Pursuit champion-always pulling out the winning answer at the last second.
Though the last years of her life were marked by the challenges of dementia, Virginia's kind spirit, faith and love for others always shone through.
