WESLEY S.


Age 84, of Ross Township, passed away on Monday, November 17. He was born in Pittsburgh to James and Helen (Smith) Semple. He attended Penn Hills High School, graduated from Clarion University with a degree in Education and later received his Master's Degree from IUP. He taught at Shaler Area Senior High School for 41 years and also was an adjunct faculty member for 35 years at LaRoche College.



As a 20-year survivor of pancreatic cancer, he was a patient advocate and also helped to create the first Pancreatic Cancer Support Group in the Pittsburgh area. Wes was also one of the founders of the Nu Pentaton Chapter of Phi Sigma Kappa. After college, he remained active with his fraternity and served as a regional councilor and on the Grand Council.



Wes was an avid gardener and was a member of the Shaler Garden Club. He also was known for his handlebar mustache which was his trademark.



He is survived by his loving wife, Sue (Hoffman) Semple; son Wes, Jr.; his siblings, James Semple, Jr. and Marcia Semple; nieces, Betsy Semple and Amy Semple Hale; and nephew, James Semple, III.



The family would like to thank Nathan Bahary and his team at AHN Cancer Center and the team of AHN Hospice for all their special care.



Visitation, Saturday, December 6, from 12:30 P.M., until the time of the Funeral Service, at 2 P.M., at the Greater Pittsburgh Masonic Center, 3579 Masonic Way, Pittsburgh, PA 15237.
