WILLIAM ARTHURS, JR. Obituary

Pittsburgh - William "Bill" Arthurs - our husband, dad, and Pap, left this earth at 86 years old after living a full, joyful, and deeply loving life. To know Bill was to feel welcomed. He could make a friend in the grocery store aisle, in an airport line, or on a quiet morning walk. He had a way of drawing people in with his kindness, his curiosity, and his genuine desire to hear their stories. His bright spirit, humor, and optimism filled every room he entered. His positivity and zest for life was contagious.

Bill worked hard his entire life, beginning as a teenager and continuing right up until he retired at 82 years old. He never did anything halfway. Whether it was a job, a conversation, a project, or a promise, he gave his whole heart.

Music was a big part of Bill's life. From the days he played the trumpet as a young boy, to the years he spent dancing with his daughters and granddaughters in the living room, teaching them 'the old fashioned way.' Music was his joy. He loved dancing with Glenda most of all, gliding around the room together, sharing smiles only they understood, and joining in Scottish dancing competitions that brought them endless fun.

Bill also had a keen sense of style that matched his vibrant personality. He loved color. His bright shirts and bold patterns reflected his upbeat spirit. His outfits always seemed to say, "Life is meant to be enjoyed," and he wore every shade with the same confidence and warmth he brought to everything else.

Bill was an athlete at heart. He played football in high school, then kept moving all his life, running marathons, training with determination, and pouring his energy into the Scottish Highland Games, helping to run them every year was something he cherished deeply.

Adventure was simply part of who he was. Bill loved the road and everything it promised. He drove across the U.S., explored Nova Scotia, traveled through Scotland and England, and even made his way to the Middle East. A 3 hour drive for a great meal was nothing to him, he just loved the journey, the views, the stories along the way.

More than anything, Bill loved and was most proud of his entire family. He showed it constantly, in his words, in his steadfast support, and in the way he wrapped each of us in the kind of hug that made the world feel safe for a moment. Those hugs, and the man who gave them, will be missed more than words can say.

Bill leaves behind his devoted wife, Glenda Carney Arthurs; his daughters, Colleen Arthurs and Shawna Qabazard; his son-in-law, Dr. Adel Qabazard; his granddaughters, Alexandra, Dr. Ariana, and Amara Qabazard, who were each a source of immense pride and joy for him; his stepdaughter, Marian Carney Nabors, her husband, Dr. Eric Nabors and their sons Christopher and William Nabors.
